Compass Mining has begun renaming 'worker names' for all miners that are currently hosted. The new naming convention makes it easy for our customers to keep track of their miners and better manage their fleet. This naming convention shows two points of important information the Site code and the short ID.
Example: tx3ghla
Site Code - tx3 - is the location which the miner is hashing. In this case it is Texas 3.
Short ID - ghla - ties to an individual miner reservation in our database. This is visible on your dashboard and makes it easy to track which miner pertains to which unit in your pool.
Temporary Miners (ttx):
If you have been provided a temporary miner, it will follow the same convention, except instead of the site code, there will be a ‘ttx’ before the Short ID. In this way you will be able to clearly tell which miner the temporary machine is ‘covering’
Example: ttxghla
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Why is this changing from the old naming convention?
- Is my miner being changed or moved?
- Will my machine go offline?
- Why doesn't my miner follow this naming convention?
- Why does my pool show a bunch of dead miners?
- How long will this migration take?
- If my miner gets relocated will the workername change?
Why is this changing from the old naming convention?
The old naming convention made it difficult for customers to understand which miner Id pertained to which machine in their pool. Under the new naming convention customers can easily pair miners from their pool to their dashboard. This will reduce confusion when addressing customer service requests.
Is my miner being changed or moved?
No, there is no physical change to your machine, all that will happen is a renaming of how the machine is identified. You will retain the same machine and serial number.
Will my machine go offline?
Yes, in order to rename a miner, it needs to be rebooted, so you may receive a notice from your pool that your machine is offline, however the new name will then appear in your pool view shortly after as it comes back online to full hashrate. The old name will later show up as dead. Since the pool doesn't know the unit was renamed it assumes the old worker name is offline and the new worker name is online. In time the old worker will drop or can be deleted from the page. We recommend you do a personal audit of your account to ensure that each worker name on your dashboard matches your pool account. If you notice any discrepancies please submit a support ticket explaining the situation and we will assist you.
Why doesn't my miner follow this naming convention?
We are aiming to begin this migration to a new naming scheme in early July, beginning with some of our smaller facilities, before moving onto larger ones. This means that for a short while, you may have a mix of old and new worker name schemes, this is normal and we ask that our customers are patient as we complete this move. While this will be a positive change for both Compass and our customers, we are aware that this may cause some confusion in the short term. We will be providing periodic updates throughout the migration.

If my miner gets relocated will the workername change?
Yes, your workername will change any time a miner changes location. Your pool account will show a new workername and the old one will become inactive.
What about my L7 configured to litecoinpool?
We will reach out ahead of time to specific customers with this issue, and ensure that you have your new workername in advance of the name change, in order to ensure a seamless transition.
