- What is the Compass Score?
Compass Score is a new datapoint designed to score ASIC machines on a scale from 0 to a 100. The higher the score the more advantageous or desirable the ASIC deal. The score takes into account multiple dynamic variables such as purchase price, miner age, difficulty, hashing power, current bitcoin price, etc. With a growing number of listings on our marketplace, the Compass Score allows customers to easily compare and contrast, highlighting the standout listings in real time. Compass Score is intended for current and potential customers as they shop through our site. Website visitors can utilize the Compass Score to quickly and easily compare miner listings to identify the best listings available to save time in their shopping experience. With so many details for each ASIC miner and the bitcoin network overall, it can be daunting to compare one product to another. Now there is no need to open multiple tabs to go back-and-forth comparing prices and specifications; the hard work has already been done for you. Shop with confidence.
- Who made it?
Compass Score was developed by the product and data science teams at Compass, utilizing publicly available network information as well as company sales data.
- How is the score calculated?
Compass Score inputs (detailed above) hold different weights and are balanced in Compass' scoring algorithm. Higher score listings will be those with: higher efficiencies (high TH/s), lower wattage (W) which impacts monthly hosting fees, lower hosting electricity rates, nearer term estimate online dates, lower listing purchase prices, newer machines. And, separate to specific machine properties, the lower the network difficulty and higher the btc price will drive higher listing Compass Scores.
- How often is a listing's score updated?
Compass Score is updated roughly every 10 minutes, mainly driven by changes in the bitcoin price input.
- Are scores relative to other machines or individually calculated?
Compass Scores are individually calculated but are helpful to compare scores relative to all listings.
- Are all listings on Compass Mining's site score?
No. The only machines that are currently scored are SHA256 units that mine bitcoin to be hosted with Compass Mining. Home mining units are not scored due the the hosting rate input that is not set due to the electricity rate at any person's own home or business location.
- Where can I see the Compass Score on the Compass Mining website?
Compass Score will be visible throughout the buying process from the Hardware page all the way through checkout. Compare and contrast listings easily to find a listing that suites you.
- What are next steps under development?
The score will continue to be improved to take into account additional variables. Also, for the marketplace listing process, users will soon be able to review their score and rank prior to listing a unit.
