What is a Default Mining Pool?
The Default Mining Pool is your mining pool account that you want Compass to configure all future units to when they come online. This will speed up the set up process and get your unit hashing faster. If you want any previously set miners changed to a new pool, or have multiple pools on multiple machines, you will need to contact customer support for these cases still.
Where can I enter my Default Mining Pool?
The Default Mining Pool can be set up via your customer dashboard. Log into your Compass account from compassmining.io and access the dashboard button on the top right of the screen. Your dashboard will have a button on the left hand side which allows you to set up your Default Mining Pool.
Will I still receive a Pool survey for future deployments?
No. You will no longer receive pool surveys. All future pool configurations will be handled via the dashboard.
Why is my Default Mining Pool already set?
If you are an existing customer to Compass then you may already have a miner online hosting with us. This data has been used to save you some time and set a Default Mining Pool. We encourage you to double check the information listed to make sure it is accurate. If anything is off, go ahead and press the edit button to make the appropriate updates. Be very careful, paying attention to case and look out for involuntary spaces. Compass will reach out when miners are deployed and it will be apparent if there is typos in the Default Mining Pool Configuration.
What will happen with my miners currently online?
Any miner online prior to the launch of the Default Pool feature will be unaffected. These machines will continue hashing as normal directed at the corresponding accounts.
My Default Pool is missing. What should I do?
Compass has pre-populated most of our user's dashboards with the most recent pool collection form information and set this as your default pool ahead of this feature release. If your pool information is missing, this could be due to the original pool submission form having a separate email address than your Compass address. It also will be missing if you are using a stratum that is not in our drop down list. In either case, please go ahead and add your Default pool in the settings section of your dashboard.
My Default Pool is incorrect. What should I do?
Compass has pre-populated most of our user's dashboards with the most recent pool collection form information and set this as your default pool ahead of this feature release. If this is no longer the pool you wish to use for your new miners, please go ahead and edit your pool information. If your pool information is missing, this could be due to the submission form having a separate email address than your Compass address. In either case, please go ahead and add your Default pool in the settings section of your dashboard.
Can I change my mining pools?
You can change your mining pool at any time. We recommend that you proactively adjust your Default Mining Pool prior to any deployments to ensure we configure the miners appropriately. In any case feel free to contact us with any pool change requests to any of your existing miners.
To change your Default Mining pool:
- Navigate to your Compass Dashboard.
- Click Settings.
- Select Your pool accounts.
- Click the Add Pool Account button.
- Input your new pool account information. Be sure to enable Set as Default Pool.
- Delete the old pool account using the trash icon.
Can I have multiple mining pools?
Yes you can have multiple pools. We recommend that you proactively adjust your Default Mining Pool prior to any deployments to ensure we configure the miners appropriately. In any case feel free to contact us with any pool change requests to any of your existing miners.
I already gave my pool information via the form collection method.
If you already have a pool set up with Compass and do not see this information set in your dashboard, we ask that you add your pool information again. This will be used for all future miners that are configured.
I used to have an alerts/notifications section, where did this go?
The pool alerts function was deprecated with the default pool release. The alerts feature was not 100% reliable as pool APIs often were updated. You are still able to set alerts from within your individual pool accounts.
My pool is not in the standard dropdown list. What is the 'Other Pool' option for?
Compass has pre-configured stratum information for most of the pools our customers use. But, if you would like to use a pool outside of our dropdown list, the 'Other Pool' option can be selected. You will be prompted to enter the pool stratum information. This is perfectly fine to do.
Will I be assigned backup/failover pools?
Yes, by default you will be assigned a primary stratum URL for the pool you have selected. The backup/failover stratums will be assigned using stratum URLs located in different regions. This means if a single server goes down for your pool account then a secondary and tertiary pool will be used automatically. For smaller pools not listed, you will need to provide the backup/failover information.
Can I have unique pool accounts for backup/failover pools?
Yes, if you would like to have unique backup/failover pools you can do so. Currently this is not possible to configure directly from the dashboard and will require you to submit a support ticket after each miner goes online.
My miner is not appearing on my account after a deployment using Default Mining Pool, what do I do?
You will receive and email when your miners go online. If you receive this email and you're machine still doesn't appear on your pool account then there is likely a typo in your Default Mining Pool configuration. Please review the Default Pool information and reach out to reconfigure the miner.
